Examining the trauma of families of veterans with post-traumatic stress disorder: a qualitative study

Abstract

Aim: The purpose of this research is to analyze the traumas of veterans' families suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder.
Method: This research was conducted with a qualitative method and using the data theory method of the foundation. The participants were selected using the purposeful sampling method and according to the criteria for entering the research, and until theoretical saturation was reached, finally, 42 families including spouses and children of veterans suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder in Kermanshah province, for a period of 12 months in 1401. they were subjected to semi-structured interviews and the data were analyzed using the Strauss-Corbin method.
Findings: The results were based on three stages of open coding, central coding and selective coding. Data analysis led to the production of 138 sub-categories, 15 main categories and 1 core category. The 15 categories obtained include: quality of life problems, financial problems, problems in the family's internal environment, family functioning problems, psychological problems, problems in the parent-child relationship, problems caused by surrounding people and community support networks, relationship problems with spouse, Problems in coping methods, problems of personality characteristics, problems of life cycle, problems of organizational and cultural actions, problems of family consequences, problems of social consequences and problems of individual consequences) are in the form of causal, interventional, contextual factors, strategies and The results are presented in the form of the final model.
Conclusion: This study, in connection with the research literature, provided a new understanding of the experiences of veterans' families with post-traumatic stress disorder by describing their problems. The results showed that these families have important problems in different aspects of their lives and the reduction of damages requires more attention from responsible organizations and mental health centers.
