Investigating the effectiveness of the couple therapy program with a cognitive-behavioral approach on the internalized behavioral problems of 10-15-year-old children with autism spectrum disorder

Abstract

Aim: The present study was conducted with the aim of investigating the effectiveness of implementing a couple therapy program based on the cognitive-behavioral approach on parents and reducing the internalized behavioral problems of students with autism spectrum disorder.
Methods: The current research design is semi-experimental using a pre-test, post-test and follow-up design with the control group. The statistical population in this research is all parents of male students aged 10 to 15 with autism in Mashhad. The sampling method was accessible and included 58 eligible parents who have children with internalized behavioral problems, who were selected from the parents of Tabsem State Center and Mehr Amin Private Clinic and separated and placed into two experimental and control groups. the data were analyzed using analysis of variance with repeated measurements and Spss.22 software.
Results: The results showed that implementing a couple therapy program with a cognitive-behavioral approach on parents was significantly effective in reducing internalized behavioral problems (F=29.48, P<0.001) of children with autism.
Conclusion: It can be concluded that the couple therapy program with a cognitive-behavioral approach was effective on the internalized behavioral problems of children with autism spectrum disorder and this approach can be used to reduce the psychological problems of children with autism spectrum disorder.
