The effectiveness of parenting education based on acceptance and commitment on parenting styles and anxiety in mothers with children with attention deficit / hyperactivity disorder

Abstract

Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of parenting education based on acceptance and commitment on parenting styles and anxiety in mothers with children with attention deficit / hyperactivity disorder. Method: The quasi-experimental research design was pre-test-post-test with two experimental and control groups. The statistical population of this study was all mothers with children with attention deficit / hyperactivity disorder. The sample of this study included 30 mothers with children with attention deficit / hyperactivity disorder who were selected by convenience sampling method. Then, the mothers of the experimental group underwent 9 sessions of 90 minutes, one week of parenting training based on acceptance and commitment, but the control group did not receive any intervention. The research instruments were Beck Anxiety Questionnaire and Bamrind Parenting Style Questionnaire. Data were analyzed using repeated measures analysis of variance and Spss.23 software. Results: The results showed that parenting education based on acceptance and commitment on parenting styles (authoritative (P<0.001)), authoritarian (P<0.001), negligent (P<0.001) and anxiety (P<0.001) had a significant effect on mothers with children with attention deficit / hyperactivity disorder. Conclusion: It can be concluded that parenting education based on acceptance and commitment on parenting styles and anxiety in mothers with children with attention deficit / hyperactivity disorder can be effective and the results of this study can reduce the problems of mothers. Has a child with Attention Deficit / Hyperactivity Disorder.
