Development of an educational package to improve the psychological status of children of control and self-sacrificing families and compare its effectiveness with cognitive processing therapy (CPT) on anxiety tolerance and cognitive regulation of their emotions

Abstract

Method: This study is a combination. A qualitative approach was used to develop an educational package to improve the psychological status of control and self-sacrificing children, and a quantitative approach and a quasi-experimental method with a pre-test-post-test design with a control group and two-month follow-up were used to compare its effectiveness with cognitive processing therapy. The statistical population of the qualitative part of the research, in addition to scientific texts, included all children of martyrs and self-sacrificing families of Yasuj city, who were studying in Shahed high schools and Yasuj University in the academic year 1397-1398. A small part of the community consisted of all the children of the martyr and self-sacrificing families of Yasuj city. Qualitative sampling was performed purposefully and 15 people were interviewed semi-structured to theoretical saturation. In the quantitative section, 45 children of control and self-sacrificing families of Yasuj city were selected by purposive sampling method and were interviewed with Garnfsky et al.'s (2002) emotion regulation questionnaire and Simmons and Gahr (2005) distress tolerance questionnaires. Qualitative data were analyzed by phenomenological method and emphasized by Klaizi and quantitative data were analyzed by repeated measures analysis of variance and Tukey post hoc test. Findings: The research showed that the content of the package to improve the psychological status of children of martyrs and self-sacrificing families includes four main concepts: training to deal with grief and loss, training to cope and overcome suffering, training to expand social support, training to adapt to Conditions and position. Quantitative results also showed that there is no significant difference between the two groups of educational package of improving the psychological status of control and self-sacrificing children and cognitive processing therapy on cognitive regulation of emotion and distress tolerance.
